A Limpopo prisoner has claimed that he was beaten up by two prison warders at the KutamaSinthumule maximum prison.

Michael Ndubane says the warders accused him of having a cellphone in his possession, which is against the law.

Ndubane claims he sustained a cracked skull after being brutally assaulted with a blunt object on July 31.

He says the warders found the phone in a cell he shares with his mate.

"The guys were all over me as though I had committed a heinous crime," he says.

He was sentenced in 1999 to 20 years for armed robbery.

"Despite my injuries no one cared to take me for treatment," he says.

A senior official at the institution, identified only as TE Mudau, says he has forwarded Ndubane's complaint and others to police in Louis Trichardt for investigation.
