Innocent Mayoyo, Mpumalanga Black Aces' head coach, is confident of taking the team into the lucrative Absa Premiership next season.

Mayoyo's confidence is boosted by the fact that he took two different teams to the National First Division (NFD) playoffs.

During the 2006-2007 season he turned the Seshego-based Winners Park into a formidable and fearful side, ultimately getting them to the playoffs where they were beaten by University of Pretoria.

Last season he made it to the playoffs with Dynamos, who succumbed to FC AK.

"During the past two seasons I was able to deliver with a minimal support from the management, but now the situation is different because of the great support I am receiving.

"I will promote Aces to the Premiership.

"The existing technical and management structures will assist us to fulfill our promotion mission," Mayoyo told Sowetan yesterday.

"I was impressed by the pre-season camp that we held two weeks ago and also the commitment displayed by the players.

"On top of the strong, youthful team that we have assembled, I need a quality striker to accomplish our aim."

Aces beat Jomo Cosmos and Platinum Stars in pre-season friendlies and played to a 2-all draw with Lamontville Golden Arrows on Tuesday.

"I cannot judge the performance of the boys through the friendly matches.

"Instead, our opening league match against University of Pretoria on August 30 will be a true measurement of their strength," the former Orlando Pirates goal keeper said.
