Teams invited to development tourney

Football teams across the country have been invited to take part in the Coca-Cola Dona's Mates tournament at Orange Farm from September 6 to 26.

Football teams across the country have been invited to take part in the Coca-Cola Dona's Mates tournament at Orange Farm from September 6 to 26.

The ninth edition of the competition will be hosted by the Dona's Mates Youth Football Development Project.

James "Maradona'' Shabangu, chairman of football development, has urged all the teams to register for the tournament on time to avoid disappointment. The competition, which has grown in leaps and bounds, has attracted top PSL development clubs including Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Bucs' Under-15s won the eighth edition of the competition held at Orange Farm grounds over the Easter Holidays.

"I am appealing to the National First Division campaigners to send their youth teams to the tournament as well. This is the fitting platform for the youngsters to showcase their talent and be exposed to competitive football," said Shabangu.

The tournament will feature the Under-13s, Under-15s, Under-17s and senior categories and there will be a lot of prizes at stake for the winners. The closing date for registration is August 30.

For more information call Shabangu on 082-743-7672 or Malefetsane Phatlane on 082-626-7803. - Meshack Khotha
