If you had any plans for Sunday, August 31, then I suggest you drop them and make a date with a yearly music extravaganza, the Tribute To SA Music Heroes Concert.

It takes place at the newly revamped and easy to access Moretele Park in Mamelodi, a stone's throw from Pretoria.

Ready to set the stage on fire and make the 11th anniversary concert unforgettable are Hugh Masekela, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbulu, Jonas Gwangwa, Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Busi Mhlongo, Jimmy Dludlu, Simphiwe Dana, Ringo Madlingozi, Malaika, Kutu, Linda Kekana, Siphokazi, Camagwini, Heritage School of Music, C.A.F.C.A., Naledi, Ladies In Jazz, Wadee and Xoli Nosenga.

Some of the artists are recipients of the award that recognises and acknowledges excellence. Icons such as Makeba, Semenya, Masekela, Mhlongo and Gwangwa have been honoured for their role in taking our music to the world, persevering under the most difficult circumstances and remaining true to their home-grown sound. Today, not only are they sought-after performers, but their music, thanks to concerts like this, they have the youth "chomping at the beat".

The concert, as one of the most important days on the music calendar, allows families and friends to chill and catch up against the backdrop of great music. Enjoy a picnic atmosphere, put your feet up and dance to your favourite tracks.

Tickets for the concert, whose gates open at 9am, are sold at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers. None will be sold at the gates.
