Delegates at the fifth SACP regional conference in NkowaNkowa, near Tzaneen, Limpopo, have resolved to support ANC chairman Cassel Mathale as the sole candidate for the premier's position next year.

They also decided that ANC president Jacob Zuma must be the only presidential candidate in next year's elections.

The decisions form part of several resolutions taken during a three-day provincial conference at the weekend.

Speaking to the media after the conference provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane said delegates had agreed to take the government to task to about providing free education and free and compulsory circumcision for young men.

He said disadvantaged women living on farms and in rural areas in the province should be supplied with free sanitary pads.

The women could not afford the high price of pads since they have already been crippled by escalating prices of food and other household essentials, he said.

Delegates also called for unity within the tripartite alliance.

The newly elected SACP top five members are Pandelani Ramagoma (chairman), Pinkie Kekana (deputy chair), Lekganyane (secretary), Stan Motimele (deputy secretary), and Moses Tembe (treasurer).
