SuperSport United coach, Gavin Hunt, was all smiles after Matsatsantsa booted Orlando Pirates out of the MTN 8 Knockout competition via a 2-1 victory at the Johannesburg Stadium on Friday.

Hunt, who did not want to say much ahead of their game against the Bucs, said his guys played according to instructions and their game plan worked wonders for the team.

"We knew what to expect from them because they were playing at home, so our plan was to give them little room to move.

"They had the crowd behind them, but the guys stuck to the plan and went for them. When they scored their first goal, we did not give in and continued to fight until we equalised. And that brought us back into the game," he said.

Pirates coach Ruud Krol said seeing that they were out of the competition, they would focus on friendly games to build a better side for the future.

Pirates' captain, Lehlohonolo Seema, said they did not combine.

"We did not look like scoring, and something went wrong because we also ran out of ideas. But we'll go back to the drawing board and see where we went wrong."

Pirates were on the rampage in the first 15 minutes, virtually camping in United's goal area and as a result the visitors conceded four corner kicks.

This saw Thembile Kanono taking advantage of their dominance when he scored in the eighth minute.

Fikru Tefere's bicycle kick from inside the Bucs goal area beat Senzo Meyiwa hands down.

Substitute Anthony Laffor rocked the net in the 82nd minute for United.
