The fact that it has become a daily occurrence creates the impression that the police and authorities are not winning the battle against cable thieves.

The Inkatha Freedom Party has called - and rightly so - for the scourge to be a declared a terrorist activity. Cable theft costs the country's businesses R500 million a year.

We hope the authorities heed the call.
