Five foreign nationals appeared in the Protea magistrate's court yesterday on charges of rape and robbery.

It is alleged that George Mkhabela, 23, Joseph Mahlase, 22, Benneth Mahlangu, 21, Nicolas Ncube and John Molabedi broke into a house in Diepkloof, Soweto, at about 2am on Tuesday.

Using a toy gun, they allegedly tied up the husband and a five-year-old child and then gang raped the wife.

They fled with a TV set, a DVD player and a blanket.

The wife then untied her husband's hands.

He followed them to their hide out, not far from the couple's house.

The husband alerted police, who then arrested the gang.

They are in custody for further investigation and will appear in court again on Monday. - Getrude Makhafola
