Durandt promises another epic
Nick Durandt's boxing champions made a grand entrance to the ring at Emperors Palace last August - on roaring Harley Davidson motorbikes - during his Prive Boxing Ball.
That was the inaugural event of a box-and-dine that saw new fans in tuxedos and gowns replacing the usual vociferous ones who shout and scream their lungs out urging their favourite fighters on to victory.
The second edition of that event will take place at the same venue next Saturday night (August 16).
Durandt warned that last year's show, which provided electrifying moments especially during the time when his champions appeared from every corner of the Centre Court on motorbikes, will count for nothing compared to what will happen on Saturday.
"It's gonna be a boxing spectacular second to none. Wining and dining, comedy, dance and extravaganza cabaret and championship boxing all under one roof," he said.
"Wait and see. Maybe champions this year will be transported in helicopters. I must add that the pride of South Africa's female fighters, Noni Tenge, Unathi Myekeni and Sandra Almeida will showcase their fighting skills in three of the seven bouts. We are honouring the national Women's Day".
Durandt's Prive Boxing Ball last year attracted political bigwigs, giants in the business sector, honchos from the sporting fraternity as well as actors and actresses.
They all left the Palace of Dreams dumbfounded by Durandt's show that featured seven of his many fighters.
His charge Osborne "Big Daddy" Machimana topped the billing with his five-round demolition of Jake Els to register the second defence of the South African heavyweight belt.
Durandt said tables of 10 are sell from R6000 to R7500, adding that proceeds will go to the SAPS's widows and orphans fund.
Durandt's champion Daniel "Billy The Kid" Bruwer will defend the national light heavyweight belt against Ronnie Lategan in the main contest while Simphiwe "V12" Vetyeka's SA bantamweight belt will be on the line against Vuyisile Bebe.
Phumzile "Sweet Pee" Matyhila and Warren "The Warrior" Joubert will also showcase their fighting skills.
