Police have killed two suspects in a bloody shootout in Klipgat, North of Pretoria, yesterday.

As they stamp their authority on the war against ATM bombers, police also arrested four of the bombers. Two of them are under police guard in hospital after being seriously wounded.

This comes a day after the Durban organised crime unit shot dead another bomber, Muzi Majola, 26, on Wednesday near Estcourt, in KwaZulu-Natal.

They arrested another suspect during the incident.

Last week the same unit killed what they called a notorious kingpin, Fukani Zwane, in his driveway in KwaMashu.

Two days earlier they had arrested Nhlanhla Mhlongo, also alleged to be a kingpin.

In yesterday's incident police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a shotgun, three pistols, commercial explosives and a large amount of cash.

The men held up two security guards before bombing an ATM in Majaneng village in North West.

Police tracked them to a house in Klipgat, near Mabopane.

"Police victory is certain," police spokesman Phuti Setati said. "We are tackling these criminals head-on."

He said police had acted on intelligence gathered by their elite unit and cornered the suspects in an RDP house.

"The police ordered the men to surrender but they opened fire. Police retaliated," he said.

When the dust settled two of the men were dead and two injured. Two others were arrested. They are due to appear in court soon.

The house was left deserted yesterday. A broken door, shattered windows and bullet-riddled walls bore testimony to what had happened earlier.

Neighbours were still in shock yesterday. They said the house in Extension U was rented by one of the men about a month ago.
