The National Teachers' Union alone has a list of 64 teachers, including principals, who are sitting at home while getting paid and are waiting to be transferred.
The female principal of Phindizwe High School in Inkandla, who cannot be named to protect her identity, has joined the list of teachers and principals sitting at home after they were chased out of their schools.
She was forced out of the school in May by angry parents, pupils and and residents, who accused her of nepotism and running the school like her household.
Sowetan learnt that two of the principal's daughters and her son-in-law are teachers at the school.
The parents claimed that the principal had employed some of her relatives and her children. Some were not even qualified teachers.
They said they were concerned about the standard of teaching at the school since some children were reportedly being taught by unqualified teachers.
A resident said the community had decided to eject the principal from the school premises because the circuit offices had done nothing despite the fact that the allegations were reported to them.
In a letter to the community, parents and the school governing bodies, local officials said the department was ready to start probing the allegations against the principal.
