Thinking he had killed his girlfriend after a fierce argument, a security guard shot himself in the head with his service pistol.

The incident took place at the Ramotshinyadi Clinic in Bolobedu, in Limpopo, on Tuesday morning.

Work at the clinic came to a standstill after patients and members of the community jostled to catch a glimpse of the macabre scene.

Police spokesman Freddy Maenetja said the guard had an argument with his girlfriend at her house prior to the incident. It is not clear what they were arguing about.

Maenetja identified the guard as Tebogo Stenley Kgamedi, 37, who was an employee of Joe-Marie Securities in Polo-kwane.

"After an argument between the couple, Kgamedi allegedly produced a service pistol and fired a shot in the direction of the girl. She fell down but was not hurt.

"Kgamedi, believing he had killed his girlfriend, rushed to the clinic where he shot and killed himself," said Maenetja.
