Women are gearing up to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the 1956 women's march to the Union Buildings.

From Saturday until the end of the month calenders will be filled with exciting events aimed at empowering and celebrating women.

Matawana Moleleki, president of the Ladies Empowerment Organisation (LEO), says women from Gauteng's Sedibeng district will meet at the Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday to "celebrate their womanhood."

"We at the LEO feel it is important to celebrate the only thing that makes us different - our femininity," Moleleki says.

"Women need to be reminded of their importance in society and the reason for embracing their femininity.

"They need to be reminded that they are the cornerstone of the nation and must appreciate their contribution in society."

Motivational speaker, author and businesswoman Ngozi Awa is the keynote speaker.

Under the theme "Business Unusual: All Power to Women" the provincial government, in partnership with the City of Tshwane, will kick off Women's Day celebrations with various activities that include a health walk to the Union Buildings by an estimated 20 000 women.

In Polokwane the national women and environment conference takes place from August 13 to August 15 at the Ranch Hotel.

It will give women an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge on leading solutions for environmental sustainability.
