An 81-year-old Mpumalanga granny, who was arrested for drug dealing, is off the hook after the Marapyane periodical court struck her case off the roll.
The reasons for Maria Makhube's acquittal were not given.
Makhube, of Marapyane in the KwaMhlanga area of Mpumalanga, was arrested last week when pupils from the Mmasekaseka Middle School identified her as a drug dealer.
Her drug dealing came to light when a number of pupils at Mmasekaseka became disorderly and forced the school's authorities to call the police.
The school authorities called in the police after pupils, who were high on dagga, became rowdy and upset other pupils and teachers.
The police said when they searched the pupils they found dagga in their possession and demanded to know where they got the illegal substance.
"To our shock the pupils pointed to the granny who lives about 500 metres from the school," said police spokesman Hasting Chaane.
She allegedly told the police that her pension grant was inadequate to provide for her and her 15-year-old grandchild.
Chaane said police found dagga worth about R1000 in the granny's house.
