A Limpopo man was brutally assaulted by a group of assailants in Mookgophong (formerly Naboomspruit) while sleeping in his house on Tuesday evening.

The assailants allegedly entered the house through a broken window and gave the 28-year-old man the beating of his life.

The victim has been identified as Samuel Kobe of Ward 4 Phomolong section.

Kobe is allegedly not the first victim to be attacked in Phomolong. There have been several attacks on innocent people.

Two weeks ago Bafana Mokati was beaten to death. He was allegedly sleeping in his house.

On the same night Chris Bopape was allegedly stabbed eight times by unknown assailants.

He is fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of an unidentified hospital.

On July 29 local businessman Joseph Khan was robbed of R56000 by unknown men who broke into his house.

Police have confirmed the incidents and said they were still investigating.

Ally Senwamadi, spokesman for the angry residents, says crime is escalating because "Phomolong is very dark".

The community took to the streets in protest last week after the latest attacks. They were also protesting about poor service delivery.

ANC Ward 4 councillor Linah Seanego confirms that the crime rate in the area is out of control.

She said she hopes that the installation of electricity will help reduce crime.
