A Soweto woman is fuming three months after a Kaizer Chiefs defender failed to compensate her for her car that was damaged when he rammed into her.
Joan Mbele, 53, said she was so angry that she wanted nothing to do with Ghanaian national Jonathan Quartey but to see her Nissan Sentra fixed and the man sent to jail.
Mbele yesterday said the Amakhosi defender tried to convince her to drop the charges she had laid against him.
"I am not prepared to fall for his pleas," Mbele said. "I want my car fixed and I want justice done."
She said she was travelling to work on May 10 at about 6pm when her car was hit from behind by Quartey's VW Golf in Mulbarton, Johannesburg south.
"I was scared and shocked when the accident happened," she said.
"But I managed to take down the vehicle's registration number before the car disappeared."
She said the player fled from the scene and she was helped by a passer-by who showed her which car was Quartey's.
She said she called the police who accompanied her to Quartey's vehicle. His car was already being loaded on to a tow truck and had had its registration plates removed.
The following day, Mbele said, she opened a case against Quartey at the Mondeor police station.
"I managed to trace him and approached his employers at Kaizer Chiefs' village to complain about the matter," Mbele said.
"He did not show any remorse about what he had done."
Quartey confirmed speaking to Mbele about the accident yesterday.
He said: "I asked her to come with me to the police station to drop the charges," he said.
Quartey agreed that he was behind the wheel when the accident happened.
"I can't touch her car now because the matter is being handled by the police. I will only do so once she changes her mind."
He said he ran away from the scene because he was a foreigner and feared for his life.
Inspector Lorraine van Emmerik said the matter was being investigated.
