Careers on the line for Mofokeng, Mboyane

Sweat, blood and tears will be an added dish on the menu at Wembley Arena tonight.

The boxing venue in the south of Johannesburg will host a box-and-dine tournament courtesy of BRD Promotions.

It will be staged by promoters Emmanuel Fernandez and Gert Strydom.

Sweat, blood and tears should flow during and after the main bout between Tshepo Mofokeng and Klaas Mboyane in the junior bantamweight division over six rounds.

This is because these two gladiators must perform above themselves in order to convince the boxing fraternity that they still have what it takes.

Mofokeng is trained by Benny Pailman, Cliff Martins and Peter Favor, while Mboyane is trained by Fernandez and Strydom.

Mofokeng, the more skilful boxer of the two, was defeated by MacBute Sinyabi (TKO 1) for the vacant national super bantamweight title in March.

Sceptics wrote him off despite the fact that it was only Mofokeng's third defeat against nine wins, six by knockout, and a draw.

Mboyane, an aggressive but average fighter who relies too much on power, was outpointed last month by Abmerk Shindjuu over four rounds in Namibia. That defeat, Mboyane's fifth against eight wins (4KOs), affirmed the opinion that he is a no-hoper.

The loser is likely to be consigned to undercard fights for the rest of his life.

Fernandez's other charges Jason Bederman, Mthobisi Buthelezi and Sicelo Mzobe will fight Godwin Botile, Godfrey Mabunda and Brian Hlophe.

Tom Reyner an Andre Nel will also be part of this tournament, scheduled to start at 7pm.
