At least 18 people were arrested between last Friday and Monday at arguably one of South Africa's most notorious crime hot spots - KaNyamazane.

KaNyamazane police spokesman Captain Phillip Fakude told Sowetan the suspects were arrested in and around KaNyamazane near Nelspruit for murder, rape, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, burglary, malicious damage to property, armed robbery, common assault, threatening a policeman, drunken driving, house robbery and reckless driving.

Fakude said police had not yet arrested anyone in connection with the stoning to death of a 20-year-old man found in the Msogwaba Trust on Saturday night at about 11pm.

"The motive for the murder is not known," said Fakude.
