I was watching the news on Monday and was dismayed by ANCYL president Julius Malema calling on President Mbeki to resign.

Clearly his utterances are not supported by all the members he claims to represent. Such divisive utterances should be condemned by the senior leadership of the ANC.

The youth should align themselves with the pledge former president Nelson Mandela made during his birthday celebration at Loftus, advocating unity within the ANC, including the youth league.

Malema has not matured and his character still reflects the Cosas mentality.

During one of his interviews he emphasised the need for the youth to be politically educated, especially those who misbehaved during the ANCYL conference.

I think Malema needs to be educated himself. Clearly the youth of this country cannot be led by such an immature, insensitive and indecisive leader.

The political landscape has changed and needs more sober-thinking and forward-looking young leaders with vision. Malema should step down, now.
