Television actress Khanyisile Mbau's husband, Mandla Mthembu, nearly landed in trouble with the bank over payments for one of his two Lamborghini sports cars.

Racing against time to stop the story being published, Mthembu yesterday paid the bank. Absa yesterday sent a letter showing that R76000 had been paid.

As if this was not enough, the Johannesburg family court authorised a warrant for Mthembu's arrest after he allegedly failed to pay maintenance for his two daughters with his former wife Dolly Matshabe.

Matshabe confirmed that Mthembu last made a maintenance payment in April.

Mthembu could not be reached for comment .

Mbau, who said Mthembu was in London, moved swiftly and deposited R16000 into Matshabe's bank account.

"It is not a train smash,"Mbau said. "We are aware of the matter. We have had too much on our plate and that is why some of these responsibilities slipped our minds.

"Mandla gave me an instruction to deposit R16000 into Dolly's account and I have just done that," she said yesterday.

Matshabe confirmed receiving the money but insisted she was still owed R4000.

When Mthembu bought the two cars - one for himself and the other for his wife - his first stop was at the Sunday World offices where he posed for pictures.

Each sports car is worth R4million.

Mthembu later made quick stops at Sunday Sun and Sunday Times offices and posed for more pictures.

But Sowetan can reveal that the celebrity couple, famous for their legendary expensive taste, can't keep up with the R35000 monthly payment on Mbau's car.

And officials from Absa's tracing department have visited Mthembu's previous addresses to try and get hold of the car.

This was after several debit orders amounting to R76000 were dishonoured.

The bank has also been unsuccessful in tracing Mthembu.

Sowetan has been informed that he recently moved out of his rented Melrose Arch penthouse in Rosebank. He also changed all his contact details.
