Music powerhouse DJ Cleo received the beating of his life on Saturday.
Cleo was seriously assaulted by a group of security guards at Mmabatho Stadium during the Telkom Charity Cup games after a squabble over tickets.
He was in the company of his manager, Given Ngwenya, and hundreds of on-lookers left the stadium to watch the music maestro getting battered.
Cleo said he was billed to perform during the intervals of the games but it turned out to be impossible after the incident.
The incident happened shortly before the start of the second half of the final between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
He was allegedly assaulted by a group of seven guards.
"I asked the guards to open the gates for us but they would not budge," he said yesterday
"They instead called us names, telling us they were not going to open the gates for us.
"We tried to show them our access cards but they would still not open for us. They said we were problematic and they would deal with us."
The celebrity said they were only allowed entry after the programme director for entertainment told the guards that they were billed to perform.
"But the guards still hurled insults at us. One of them even uttered the word "voetsek" when we entered the venue." .
Cleo, whose real name is Cleopas Monyepao, said before they got inside the stadium one of the guards unleashed a powerful fist that struck his back.
"That was followed by a rain of blows that that put me down," he said.
He said he had taken the matter up with his lawyer to ensure that justice prevailed in the case.
"Guards are not above the law. Those responsible must account for their rude actions.
"We are weighing our options and believe those responsible will face the full might of the law."
Cleo said as if the hiding was not enough, he tried in vain to open a case. The police officers refused.
Mmabatho police spokesman Moses Makgoabone confirmed the incident but said no case had been opened.
