Promoters Emmanuel Fernandez and Gert Strydom have vowed to soldier on with their development tournament at Wembley Arena on Thursday with or without financial injection.

It's a box-and-dine which comprises six bouts. Tables of 10 are selling at R2500 each. A three-course meal is part of the package. Fernandez and Strydom operate under the banner of BRD Boxing Promotions. Their tournament will also include martial arts.

The two promoters have demonstrated their dedication towards boxing by staging a tournament without any financial assistance.

But Fernandez and Strydom are boxing men through and through. Their attitude is admirable, especially with regard to the development of the sport.

"We have never cancelled a tournament before and we do not plan to do so in the future.

"That affects boxers. Imagine the sacrifices they make. Developing youngsters has been our job anyway," said Fernandez.

Top boxers such as IBO welterweight champion Isaac "Angel" Hlatswayo and SA junior featherweight holder Oscar "Golden Boy" Chauke came through BRD's tournaments.

In fact, both boxers were trained by Fernandez and Strydom.

Four of their charges, Klaas Mboyane, Sicelo Mzobe, Jason Bedermen and John Ryner will be in action against Tshepo Mofokeng, Brian Hlophe, Goodman Botile and Andre Els, respectively come Thursday.

The fight between Mboyane and Mofokeng should be a thrill-a-minute affair.

Mboyane will definitely be looking to impress the ratings' committee while Mofokeng needs to dispel the notion that he is washed up.

Mofokeng has not fought since March when he was blown away in one round by Mabuti Sinyabi for the national super bantamweight belt.

Action starts at 7pm.
