The Gauteng department of housing has extended the Ziveze campaign - but only in certain areas.

With yesterday being the official cut-off date thousands braved the cold and descended on Gauteng's housing department to update their details.

The campaign was launched in February in Sebokeng to resolve the housing backlog by updating applicants' details on the database.

MEC Nomvula Mokonyane said the extension was as a result of the positive response from communities. The system was launched to ensure that there was accurate data to assist the department in allocating houses to the rightful owners.

Alexandra, Jabavu, Zola, Meadowlands, Soweto, Dobsonville, Mathole, Doornkop and Ivory Park were given exten sions.
