Rasool made right choice

I want to take my hat off to Ebrahim Rasool for the dignified manner in which he handled the ANC NEC's decision for him to step down.

I want to take my hat off to Ebrahim Rasool for the dignified manner in which he handled the ANC NEC's decision for him to step down.

He follows in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela in the exemplary manner in which he chose to handle the Louis Luyt court challenge.

History will hold such expressions of humility in high esteem. Rasool had the choice to act up and take the ANC all the way to the constitutional court like other politicians. But he didn't.

By making the right choice whatever shortcomings he had as premier are diminished and he will always be remembered for the good things he did to make Western Cape "a home for all".

Sadly the same cannot be said of some of the so-called ANC top guns. It is my considered view that Jacob Zuma should not have fought Thabo Mbeki's decision to fire him after he was charged with corruption. Instead he should have been reconciliatory for the sake of the ANC.

His defiant approach is at the centre of the present factionalist tendencies and violence throughout the ANC.

For heaven's sake, he was in the second highest office in the land. How high does he want to go before he destroys the very organisation he claims to care so much about?
