Investment and savings group Old Mutual has contributed R200000 for gifted, disadvantaged learners.

The money will fund their education at St David's Marist Inanda private school in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Paul Hanratty, the company's managing director, said: "Education and capacity building are a key thrust of our economic transformation strategy. We are delighted to be part of efforts to bring quality education to children who would not have had this kind of opportunity."

Chantal Ratcliffe, director of St David's Marist Foundation, said they needed partners like Old Mutual.

"We are looking at nurturing a long-term partnership because transformation is not a short-term strategy."

She said they targeted pupils at lower levels because there was a higher success rate when integrating children at a younger age.
