Face the music

Pupils should acquire education with dignity and without fear of physical punishment from their teachers.

Pupils should acquire education with dignity and without fear of physical punishment from their teachers.

In South Africa children cannot be subjected to assaults by tutors because corporal punishment has been outlawed.

It is shocking that a grade2 class teacher at a school in Evaton in the Vaal is accused of severely torturing 23 small children.

She is now facing charges of assault with intent to do bodily harm after she allegedly put a knife in a heater and branded her pupils on their faces and arms.

The teacher is at present in hospital suffering severe headaches.

We pray for her speedy recovery so that she can face the music - in court.

The incident is a disgrace to the profession.
