Zimbabwe talks to continue

HARARE - Power-sharing talks between Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF and opposition Movement for Democrat Change (MDC) are set to resume on Sunday, South African President Thabo Mbeki said after meeting President Robert Mugabe in Harare yesterday.

HARARE - Power-sharing talks between Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF and opposition Movement for Democrat Change (MDC) are set to resume on Sunday, South African President Thabo Mbeki said after meeting President Robert Mugabe in Harare yesterday.

"The talks are progressing. They (the negotiators) want to resume on Sunday," Mbeki told journalists.

"We came just to brief the president on how far the negotiations have gone. I met (MDC leader Morgan) Tsvangirai yesterday.

"I am going to meet Arthur Mutambara now," Mbeki said, referring to the leader of a smaller MDC faction.

Mbeki flew to Harare for discussions with Mugabe after the talks adjourned on Tuesday amid suggestions by the MDC that they were at an impasse. - Sapa-AFP
