The mayor of Delmas in Mpumalanga, Moloko Rapatsa, will launch a special campaign to fight against alcohol and drug abuse among the youth this weekend.

This will be during the Telkom Charity soccer spectacular for which two big screens will be erected at the Delmas Rugby Stadium so that people can watch the games.

Rapatsa said: "Sports and entertainment have the ability to attract young people from the streets. We think its time to talk to them about the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol."

He said the occasion would be very special since musicians such as Arthur Mafokate, Chomee, DJ Sdunkero, DJ Bobo, Ringo Madlingozi are scheduled to perform.

Ziyaphenduka Promotions boss Bruce Kgapane, pictured, who is managing the event, confirmed that these artists would be performing.

"We will also bring in a state-of-the-art sound system to make the event more meaningful," Kgapane said yesterday.

He asked revellers not to bring bottles and other dangerous objects into the venue.
