Labour inspectors at present conducting unannounced inspections on KwaZulu-Natal farms to check for workplace law compliance say most farmers are complying with labour laws.

Department of Labour spokesman Page Boikanyo said 101 of the 132 farms visited as part of the five-day crusade had fully complied with the legislation.

Only 31 were found to be noncompliant.

The agricultural sector has been put in the spotlight as part of the department's national drive to enhance the visibility of it's inspectorate in the most remote and rural communities of the country.

A total of 34 contravention notices were served on the defaulting farmers.

These farmers were given 60 days to rectify the situation. - Canaan Mdletshe
