The Zion Christain Church Brass Band has withdrawn from the Lowveld Show at the last minute, angering organisers.
Mpumalanga people and show organisers said it would have been historic in the show's 59-year history for the ZCC band to have performed. The band was to perform today.
"We are shocked and don't know what to tell people who want know the reasons for the church's about-turn," show director Hannes de Kock said yesterday.
"We are expecting many local ZCC members after hearing that their renowned marching band will grace the event but we are now speechless as to what to tell them."
De Kock said they invited the church because they wanted to cater for the cultural diversity of the people of Mpumalanga.
Attempts to get a comment from ZCC, which had earlier confirmed their participation, drew a blank. The show takes place from today until Saturday.
