Wines South Africa (Wosa) has pledged to raise R4,5 million for the training of wine stewards as a legacy project for the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals.

This was announced at the launch of a new premium red wine brand called Fundi in Johannesburg last week attended by the who's who in the industry.

The recruitment and training of stewards is one of the contributions by Wosa as part of the legacy projects for the quadrennial soccer event.

The project is fully supported by the hospitality industry body.

Wosa is a nonprofit organisation responsible for the promotion of South African wines globally.

A total of 17 500 cases of Fundi will be sold globally to raise the R4,5 million for the hospitality industry to recruit and train the stewards.

The recommended retail price of the new wine on the local market is R120 a bottle.

Su Birch, Wosa chief executive, said: "Our plan is to recruit candidates for training from those currently working in the hospitality industry."

Wosa will also recruit unemployed South Africans .
