Thabo Mbeki is useless as president because the new ANC leadership has rendered him powerless. The recent axing of two premiers is a classic example. What is he still doing as president then? He should salvage the little pride he still has and resign.
I doubt if Jacob Zuma, as president, is going to stop the bad behaviour of his supporters, particularly those of Cosatu and the ANCYL?
Zuma is definitely going to be on a collision course with them. He is going to find himself in the same position that Mbeki is in - at odds with the tripartite alliance partners.
The problem is that Zuma owes his political survival to his notorious supporters. The question is: will he be able to control and manage them? We hope that he will be able to manage these hotheads.
Zuma is a dubious character: he allows his supporters to make shocking statements publicly in his name. Remember the "kill for Zuma" statement by that clown Julius Malema?
What is of concern to me - and probably to others - is the silence of leaders of good moral standing within the ANC. I'm talking about the likes of Cyril Ramaphosa, Pallo Jordaan and others. Do they approve of what is happening within the ANC?
