Tswelelang, a sleepy town near Wolmaranstad in North West is still reeling in shock after a knife fight left one pupil dead.

Learners at the Kgatelopele Secondary School say Katlego Kaekae, 19, a learner at the nearby Maitemogelo high school, arrived at their school after break last Thursday and demanded to see Seun Horst, 17.

"Our teacher tried to stop Horst from leaving the classroom during a lesson but he insisted that he wanted to know why Kaekae was looking for him," said a student who wanted to remain anonymous. It is alleged that Kaekae produced two knives and forced Horst to fight. Horst took the knife and allegedly stabbed him in the chest and head. Horst died after he was allegedly stabbed three times in the back by Kaekae.

Captain Aafjie Bothma, North West provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.

Kaekae was treated at a local hospital were he was later arrested. He appeared in the Wolmaranstad magistrate's court yesterday. The case was postponed to August 22.
