Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender Cyril Nzama may join the newly promoted Bay United in the new season.

The former Amakhosi captain is training with the Port Elizabeth side and the side's chief executive officer, Senzo Mazingiza, said they were keen to have the player in their fold.

Mazingiza said though Nzama was nearing the end of his soccer career, they believed he could be an invaluable asset to the club and could assist the team with his experience and knowledge of the game.

"We're still talking to him and chances are that he may join us," said Mazingiza. "He's the most experienced and dedicated player, so we hope to reach an agreement with him before the week ends."

United, who are the second side from the Friendly City to qualify for the Premiership after the demise of Michau Warriors at the end of the 1996-1997 season, are also beefing up the team for the future.

Mazingiza said their focus was to sustain the club in the top flight for the first season and build a strong and competitive side for the future from there.

He said they have also invited David Thwala, Bulelani Matroos, Eddie Ndalo, Clifford Maphathu and Achile Omoua to come for trials. He said the first four were local players and that Omoua was a central midfielder from Cameroon.

The side is in a difficult situation after finishing the playoffs late and it is not easy to start rebuilding the team when the league is about to kick off.
