Violence begets violence, goes the old saying, and that is precisely why we cannot tolerate corporal punishment in our schools.

Sowetan published a report yesterday about a Vaal teacher from hell who is on the run after being accused of branding pupils with a hot knife, pricking them with needles, pouring hot tea over them, throwing stones at them and beating them with a piece of pipe.

And her charges are only grade 2 tots.

So far 19 cases have been reported to the principal of Letsema Ilima in Evaton.

Fifteen parents have laid charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm against the missing woman.

One of the main reasons we ban corporal punishment at schools is to help eliminate the culture of violence that suffuses our sorry land. But that did nothing to control this sadist.

We all know our teachers are under stress but they can never be allowed to take their often legitimate frustrations out on our kids.

Once the cops apprehend her, as they surely will, the law must make an example of her. Scofflaws like her must be weeded out of the profession if we ever hope to achieve a sane society.
