South Africa's campaign in continental club competition is over after Mamelodi Sundowns and Platinum Stars were bundled out of the MTN's CAF Confederations Cup.
The big-spending Sundowns were defeated 2-0 by Egyptian side Haras Hodoud in a return match in Cairo on Saturday night.
Sundowns are out of the 2008 edition on a 2-1 aggregate after winning the first leg 1-0 in Atteridgeville where Lungisani "Long Weekend" Ndlela scored the only goal.
This has once more shattered the club's president Patrice "Ngwana ko Hae" Motsepe's dream of conquering Africa.
But the dream still lives on next year as Downs - who have Zambian international Collins Mbesuma training with them - will participate in the same tournament after winning the inaugural Nedbank Cup.
In Tunisia on the same night, The Tycoons were also beaten 2-0 by CS Sfaxien in Sfax. Stars were edged out 4-2 on aggregate.
They had drawn their first leg 2-2 at home a fortnight ago.
Confirming the presence of the player known as "Ntofo-Ntofo", Downs publicist Mahlatse Mphahlele said: "It is true, but he is only training with us.
"All that I can tell you is that we are still assessing him."
The burly Mbesuma, who was also linked to his former club Kaizer Chiefs, arrived in the country on Thursday night.
The following day Mbesuma trained with the new Sundowns recruits, who included Benedict "Tso" Vilakazi, Sibusiso "Rhee" Zuma, Siboniso Gaxa, Katlego Mphela and Namibian Sydney Plaatjies.
