Sport must be transformed voluntarily

Someone once said that blacks are the biggest stumbling blocks to transformation in this country.

Someone once said that blacks are the biggest stumbling blocks to transformation in this country.

They act as gatekeepers and defend the indefensible. And those who have the guts to speak out are insulted, vilified and denigrated in the media.

Jimmy Manyi, Norman Arendse, Leonard Chuene, Butana Komphela and others are good examples.

In this country nothing is done voluntarily and people have to scream and shout and the government has to introduce legislation.

Transformation initiatives must be supported without people screaming for laws being introduced.

Unfortunately people tasked with decision making find it uncomfortable, which makes screaming, interference and laws a natural process.

Though the approach might not be desirable, Komphela has right to interfere. We have to de-racialise our sport, which is an eyesore.

One cannot believe that the Springboks and Proteas are African national teams.

Moss Mashishi would do himself a favour by not orchestrating a constitutional crisis by arrogantly claiming that he will refuse to appear before the sports portfolio committee. Clipping his wings is long overdue.

The committee should make an example of him. He is a liability for transformation and is arrogant and disrespectful. The sooner he is removed the better for sports transformation.
