The president of the African People's Convention (APC), Themba Godi, has committed himself and his party to working with traditional leaders to put pressure on the government in an effort to improve their living conditions and that of workers in tribal authorities.
Godi was addressing hundreds of people, mostly headmen, from various parts of Limpopo during the official launch of the APC's national programme at the Botlokwa Sports Field, north of Polokwane, at the weekend.
He said his party was disturbed by the poor remuneration given to headmen. They were key players in government service delivery programmes carried out in their areas by the local government, but were only paid R1000 a month.
Godi said that the tribal authorities were also facing a serious shortage of skills and this led to traditional leaders failing to provide effective services to their subjects.
