Speaker out on bail for attempted rape of girl
The man who holds the third most powerful position in Mpumalanga's Mbombela local municipality will appear in court today on attempted rape charges.
Jimmy Mohlala, the speaker for the municipality, will appear in the Nelspruit magistrate's court after he allegedly tried to rape a 14-year-old girl at her sister's flat last Monday.
Police said Mohlala was charged on Wednesday night and he handed himself over the following day.
"He appeared in court yesterday and was granted R3000 bail," said Nelspruit police spokesman Dawie Pretorius.
"He will appear in court again today on attempted rape charges."
