The rights to stage the International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title fight between holder Nonito Donaire and mandatory challenger Moruti Mthalane will be decided on purse bids.
The two boxers' promoters, Branco Milenkovic and American Bob Arum, were ordered by the hierarchy of the IBF to negotiate. Failure to reach an agreement by August 7 would mean the fight would go to purse bids.
Milenkovic made it clear that it was unlikely they would reach an agreement.
"Arum wants to hold the fight in America, I want it here, so clearly there will be a deadlock," he said yesterday.
"I am actually preparing myself for the bid. I am not scared. I will do my best as I have done so successfully previously."
Mthalane, the KwaZulu-Natal warrior whose fighting skills are perfected in Gauteng by Nick Durandt, won the right to challenge Filipino Donaire last month after emphatically punishing Australian Hussein Hussein in 12 rounds in East London.
Before that fight Mthalane was rated sixth.
