New Bloemfontein Celtic mentor Mich D'Avary has made himself inaccessible to some members of the media.
Sowetan was sent from pillar to post when we attempted to interview the former national Under-23 coach yesterday. We only wanted to ask him for his observation about his playing personnel after his appointment at Phunya SeleSele.
We also wanted to ask him about their preparations for the yearly Old Mutual Mangaung Cup, which they host at Seisa Rama- bodu Stadium on Sunday.
But the interview never took place.
Khumbulani Konco, Celtic's team manager, could not give us D'Avary's contact numbers because the coach warned him not to do so.
"He told me not to give out his cellphone numbers to journalists and we can only talk to him after you have made an appointment with me," said Konco.
He went on: "You can give me your contact numbers and I will make him aware that you want to speak to him. He will then phone you at a convenient time. This is how he prefers to deal with you guys and there is nothing I can do to change the situation."
But when we put it to him that D'Avary has been interviewed in some newspapers and radio stations, Konco stressed that other journalists followed the set procedure to talk to the coach.
When we insisted that we speak to D'Avary, Konco advised us to contact their office as he was there.
We called the office but were told that he was not in the office. After we insisted that Konco just told us that D'Avary was in the office, we were then told that he was "in a meeting".
D'Avary, who was earlier linked with several other teams, is the first coach at Celtic to come up with this laborious way of communicating with the media.
The coach will be introduced to the supporters at their general meeting at Batho Community Hall tomorrow.
Celtic entertain Mangaung Cup defending champions Ajax Cape Town in the second match at 11.15. Moroka Swallows engage SuperSport United in the first encounter at 9am. The final kicks off at 3.15pm.
