Stan Nkosi, a former secretary of the Gauteng legislature, died on Wednesday.
He was once deputy director-general of the department of land affairs and agriculture .
Nkosi, 60, who was admitted at at the Johannesburg Hospital for a back operation.
Nkosi was sentenced to 15 years on Robben Island for "furthering the aims" of the then banned ANC in 1976. He was released from the island at the same time as ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlante
A former lawyer and union adviser, he will be buried next week.
