Schools were disrupted in Soweto yesterday because of the Cosatu strike against the rising price of fuel, food and electricity.

Pupils were left to teach themselves, while others were happy because it turned to be another holiday for them.

A pupil from Naledi High School, who did not want to be named, said: "We were not informed that teachers would not come to school. My classmates and I studied on our own. I guess one day of no lessons will not do any harm."

Another pupil, Simphiwe Mazibuko, said: "I just wish teachers had told us not to come to school because they would not be there. I wasted money and travelled from Protea Glen to Naledi. I could have saved the money for another day." - Sibongile Mashaba
