The strike is illegal and based on false information, but the 750 workers at a 2010 World Cup stadium have downed tools and brought the entire project to a halt.
They want R3000 project bonuses they were allegedly promised on completion of the project at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo, scheduled for June next year.
But one of the workers, who didn't want his name published, said they were advised by one of the unionists to embark on the strike .
Building Construction Allied Workers Union leader Joseph Munangwana said the workers were misled by one of the unionists who told them they were going to be paid the money last month.
Disputes over wages and bonuses have been playing havoc with productivity at the stadium and this is the fourth time workers have downed tools since last March.
There are fears that the work stoppages will mean a missed deadline, but one of the main constructors, Paul Mahlake, said they will meet the June deadline in spite of the stoppages.
Attempts by the unions and the management to defuse the situation were fruitless yesterday after they failed to reach an agreement.
They have given the management until Friday to pay them.
