Wives of the sons of the Malinga clan down in Bergville, in KwaZulu-Natal, and up here in Johannesburg will not be allowed to walk in the streets throughout the day on August 9.
They will be in meditation asking their ancestors to support Patrick Malinga who will challenge Limpopo fighter Amon Baloyi for the South African lightweight belt.
This battle has been described by Patrick's father and trainer Jabulani Malinga as an opportunity to further revive their clan. It will be staged at Park Station by promoter Patrick Molefe of Rainbow Boxing Promotions, and SuperSport will broadcast the whole tournament live from 2pm.
Baloyi, who is trained in Gauteng by Colin Nathan, claimed the belt from Irvin Buhlalu with a fourth- round stoppage at the Orient Theatre in East London on May 4.
It will be his first defence.
Jabulani said: "Wives of the warriors will be out after that warfare celebra- ting yet another of our achievements.
"The cow dung of the cattle that were slaughtered back home in Bergville a few weeks ago when Inkosi yaMangwane had a feast to salute Vus'Umuzi for his achievement in Thailand, is still wet."
Vus' Umuzi, Jabulani's youngest son, lived up to the meaning of his Nguni name, which is to "revive the clan" and made history thousands of kilometres away from home in Katlehong by pulverising Thai boxing icon Veeraphol Nakhonluang in four rounds.
That victory, a candidate for "upset of 2008" here, made Vus'Umuzi the mandatory challenger to WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa.
"We promised Inkosi yaMangwane that Patrick will extend the celebrations. His response that my son's achievements in wars do not shock him because our forefathers were warriors," explained Jabulani, himself a former professional fighter.
"Patrick has been kept on ice for far too long. He was supposed to have fought for this title two years ago when it was still held by Irvin but some forces with power prevented that from happening.
"Buhlalu instead fought Baloyi and he lost the title. Finally the dark cloud cleared. Baloyi possesses what belongs to our clan," he warned.
