The Eastern Cape government is pulling out all the stops to ensure that the Vodacom Challenge is a great showcase for their tourism industry as part of their preparations for the 2010 World Cup finals.

"We are blessed that Manchester United are back in the country for the tournament. We know that they have a big following globally and it is a golden opportunity for the Eastern Cape to sell our products," said Gogo Manqoyi, Eastern Cape World Cup strategic manager.

The spotlight for the tournament is shifting to Eastern Cape tomorrow night where the big Soweto derby featuring Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will be played in Port Elizabeth.

The winner will face United in the final at Loftus in Pretoria on Saturday.

"Even if the Red Devils are not coming to Port Elizabeth to participate in the Challenge, we are going ahead with the programmes that we have put in place to promote the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality as a tourism destination," said Manqoyi.

"The World Cup office in the Eastern Cape embarked on a roadshow in the past three weeks in various townships, villages and towns to market the tournament."

Manqoyi has also congratulated Bay United for gaining promotion to the Premiership.

"Bay United's promotion to the Premiership is one of the legacy projects of the 2010 World Cup. We made it clear when we started with the bidding process that we needed a professional soccer club in the province," said Manqoyi.
