The Milo Champions Cup moved to a higher level on Saturday when three provinces produced their representatives for the national championships scheduled for August 15 to 18.

The Under-14 competition for primary schools across the country is sponsored by Nestle, and the first prize is a trip to Barcelona, Spain in September.

Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and Western Cape will have two representatives each as the competition was initially a pilot project for the trio.

The provincial championships were played on Saturday.

Gauteng will be represented by Bree Primary and Weltevreden Park, with Bree champions after they beat Park 2-0 in the final at Marks Park in Johannesburg.

Bree scored 12 goals in five matches without conceding a goal to clinch the provincial title. Park scored seven goals and conceded only two in the final against Bree.

In Free State Mofulatshepe started slowly but went on to win the provincial championship when they beat Bochabela 2-1 in the final at Thaba Nchu grounds.

Mofulatshepe beat Thibella 1-0 in the preliminary round before they pipped Ntlwanatsatsi 1-0 in the quarterfinal and went on the thrash Tlotliso 2-0 in the semi-final. Provincial favourites JJ Kubheka were booted out in the quarterfinal by Hlohlolwane.

Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and North West will hold their championships on Saturday.

"We are impressed by the high standard displayed by the youngsters from all the three provinces and we anticipate the same in other provinces" Themba Tshabalala, tournament director, told Sowetan yesterday.
