The Independent Democrats (ID) yesterday expressed surprise that KwaZulu-Natal premier S'bu Ndebele finds the Home Affairs office in Umgeni Road in a mess after he has been in office for four years.

After an unannounced visit to the office last week, the premier told the media that he was "shocked" by the poor service at the office.

"We are equally shocked considering that the premier, who occupied his office over four years ago, has only discovered this problem now," said Haniff Hoosen, ID MP and spokesman on home affairs.

"Several requests by the ID to the Home Affairs minister to act urgently on the poor level of service at offices have unfortunately fallen on deaf ears and the ID is hoping the minister will take a premier from her own party a little more seriously," Hoosen said.
