Kondowe a prize catch for Celtic
Bloemfontein Celtic's move to restructure the team and assemble a formidable squad continued this week with the capture of gifted Malawian international Fischer Kondowe.
The 26-year-old midfielder concluded a three-season deal with Phunya SeleSele on Wednesday. He was snapped up from relegated Black Leopards.
Kondowe, who boasts 54 caps for Malawi, is excited to be joining Celtic.
"They are a very good side with mobile midfielders and I want to help them to attain their goal in the new season," said Kondowe yesterday.
"I know that competition will be stiff at Celtic but I will compete hard to play regularly. I like competition because it makes me a good player."
It was not the first time that the former Bakili Bullets forward tasted relegation, at Lidoda Duvha. He was part of the Bush Bucks team that got relegated at the end of 2005-06 season.
"Fischer is now our player and we are excited to have a player of his stature," Sello Nduna, Celtic's spokesman, told Sowetan yesterday.
Celtic have put Ugandan goalie Posnett Omony on transfer and forward Lucky Mzizi was not retained. Omony is training with Leopards.
Still in Free State, Mpho "Zico" Maleka, who was fired via an SMS by AmaZulu last week, has joined Free State Stars for three seasons.
Mike Mokoena, Ea Lla Koto boss, yesterday confirmed the acquisition of Maleka.
In Cape Town, Santos boss Goolam Allie told Sowetan this week that Sebastien Bax will no longer be part of The People's Team next season. Bax, who has been with Santos for eight seasons, has returned to Mauritius.
