Gracious, introvert, cheerful, quick-witted, admired. These are some of the many adjectives used to describe the late Peter Legodi, 39.
He was the type of person you could easily underestimate on your first encounter. Only by befriending him could you discover how intelligent he was.
A traffic cop, Legodi died a painful death in the line of duty. He was on assignment on the N1 freeway near Nirvana, Polokwane, on Sunday morning when an allegedly drunk driver ran him over.
Legodi leaves a one-month-old baby, Itumeleng, and a partner, Queen Bopape, 33. He had promised them a cake to celebrate Itumeleng's birthday.
I knew Legodi for more than a decade. Those who were close to him are all devastated by his death.
He deserved to live and take care of his family and parents.
Legodi was so kind that it was a huge task for him to issue tickets to reckless drivers.
Born on April 13 1969 in Zebediela, he matriculated at Lebowakgomo High School. He studied at the University of Venda and also at the Pretoria College of Catering.
He worked at the Waterland and Meropa Casino in Polokwane as a chef before joining the provincial department of transport as a traffic policeman.
He will be buried at Lebowakgomo Cemetery tomorrow. A prayer service starts at 6:30am at House 289, Lebowakgomo Zone F.
